7 Claude Skills for Writers That Actually Improve Your Work

AI writing tools are everywhere. Most of them produce the same output — hedged, wordy, over-structured, and recognisably machine-made. The problem isn’t access to AI assistance; it’s that most AI writing tools aren’t designed for writers. They’re designed to produce something that looks like writing quickly, not to support the actual writing process.

Agent Skills are different because they’re specific. Instead of a general “write this for me” prompt, each skill gives Claude a structured, expert-level approach to one particular writing task — content production, copy editing, brand voice alignment, SEO optimisation, research synthesis. The specialisation is the point: a skill that’s built for copy editing behaves differently from one built for long-form content production.

The seven skills below cover the writing workflows most content professionals encounter weekly: drafting, editing, humanising AI output, conversion copy, brand voice, research, and AI search visibility. They work with Claude Code and Claude.ai.

The skills

1. Content Humanizer

AI-generated writing has recognisable patterns: excessive hedging, passive constructions, transitions that signal structure rather than thought, and a flatness that reads as procedurally assembled rather than actually written. Editing it out manually takes longer than it sounds — especially when you need to preserve the informational content while replacing the delivery.

The Content Humanizer skill gives Claude a structured approach to transforming AI-generated content into natural, human-sounding writing: identifying and removing robotic patterns, adding authentic voice and rhythm, improving sentence-level variety, and making the reading experience feel like a person rather than a language model.

Use it on any AI-generated draft before it goes anywhere — whether you generated the draft yourself or received it from a client. Also useful for content that’s technically correct but reads flatly, regardless of how it was originally produced.

2. Content Production Specialist

Long-form content at scale has a quality problem that volume compounds. The brief gets thinner as you move down the content calendar. The research gets lighter. The structure gets more templated. By piece twelve in a series, the content is technically present but not actually useful to the reader.

The Content Production Specialist skill gives Claude a structured approach to producing blog posts, long-form articles, and guides: research-backed, SEO-optimised, and brand-aligned content that follows a consistent structure across pieces. The skill handles the scaffold — the structure, the section flow, the internal linking logic — so each piece starts from a solid foundation rather than a blank document.

For writers producing volume: use it to set a quality floor across the whole content program. The consistency is the point — not just on high-priority pieces but across everything that goes out under the brand.

3. Copy Editor

After the fourth read of your own copy, you stop seeing it. The sentence that’s too long, the passive construction that crept in, the CTA that’s weaker than it should be — these are invisible to the writer and obvious to a fresh reader. A structured editing pass catches them.

The Copy Editor skill gives Claude a structured approach to editing marketing copy through multiple focused passes: a clarity pass that removes ambiguity and cuts wordiness, a tone pass that checks voice consistency, a concision pass that tightens sentences, a CTA pass that assesses whether the action you’re asking for is clear and appropriately low-friction, and a brand consistency pass that checks alignment with defined style guidelines.

Use it on any copy before it goes live: landing pages, email copy, ad creative, blog posts, product descriptions. Most useful as the final pass before publication — run it after you’ve done your own editing, not instead of it.

4. Marketing Copywriter

Conversion-focused writing is a different skill from long-form content writing. The constraints are different (fewer words, more specific action), the reader’s posture is different (evaluating rather than learning), and the failure mode is different (indifference rather than disengagement). Writing both well requires switching modes — which is harder than it sounds when you’re bouncing between blog posts and landing pages in the same afternoon.

The Marketing Copywriter skill gives Claude a structured approach to writing conversion-focused copy: headlines that communicate the core value proposition clearly, body copy that addresses the most likely objections in the right order, and CTAs that tell the reader exactly what they’re getting when they click. Covers homepages, landing pages, pricing pages, and feature pages.

Use it when working on pages where the goal is a specific action, not just engagement. Most useful when the copy needs to be tight — where every sentence is earning its place or getting cut.

5. Content Research Writer

Research-based content — pieces built on interviews, studies, data, or primary source material — has a different writing process than opinion or how-to content. The raw material exists; the challenge is structuring it into a usable brief before writing starts, so the actual writing phase is about craft rather than architecture.

The Content Research Writer skill gives Claude a structured approach to turning research inputs into a strong writing foundation: synthesising interview notes or source material, identifying the most compelling angles and supporting evidence, structuring the narrative arc, and producing a detailed brief that makes the drafting phase faster and the output more coherent.

Use it when you have source material — interviews, studies, datasets, expert quotes — and need to structure it into a usable form before you write. Most useful for feature-length pieces, white papers, and any content where the research depth is a selling point.

6. Brand Guidelines

Voice drift is slow and invisible until it isn’t. One writer uses contractions, another doesn’t. One piece is direct and punchy, the next hedges everything. The brand that was distinctive in the early content starts sounding generic as more people contribute to it. The guidelines exist, but they’re not enforced at the point of writing.

The Brand Guidelines skill — Anthropic’s official brand-writing skill — gives Claude a structured approach to maintaining voice, wording, and messaging alignment within a defined style system. It’s designed to be active on every piece of content rather than consulted after the fact, functioning as a style enforcer at the point of production rather than a reference document.

Use it whenever you’re writing or reviewing content that needs to sound like the brand: ads, blog posts, email copy, landing pages, social posts, product descriptions. Most useful when multiple writers are contributing to the same brand voice and consistency is starting to slip.

7. AI SEO Optimizer

Traditional SEO optimisation focuses on ranking in Google. AI SEO focuses on getting cited by the tools people are increasingly using to answer questions without clicking anywhere — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google’s AI Overviews. The optimisation principles are different, and most content published today isn’t designed for either properly.

The AI SEO Optimizer skill gives Claude a structured approach to GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): structuring content for legibility by AI systems, improving citation likelihood, adding answer-completeness signals, and going beyond keyword density to the structural features that AI systems use to evaluate source quality.

Use it when publishing content you want visible in AI-generated answers, not just traditional search results. Highest-value on informational and comparison content — the formats where AI systems most frequently synthesise answers from multiple sources, and where being the cited source compounds over time.

How these skills chain together

Here’s how these skills map to a typical long-form content workflow — from research to published piece.

Research phase: Use Content Research Writer to synthesise your source material into a structured brief. This is the foundation everything else builds on.

Drafting phase: Use Content Production Specialist to produce the initial draft from the brief. Don’t start with a blank document when you have a structured brief and a skill that knows how to use it.

Editing phase: Use Copy Editor to run a structured editing pass on the draft. Then use Content Humanizer on any sections that read flat or procedurally assembled.

Brand alignment: Use Brand Guidelines as a final check — especially important when the content is going out under a brand voice you didn’t define yourself.

SEO: Use AI SEO Optimizer before publishing to check that the content is structured for AI search visibility in addition to traditional rankings.

Conversion copy: When the project involves landing pages or product copy rather than editorial, use Marketing Copywriter instead of Content Production Specialist — the mode and the output format are different.
